This is the thread for discussions of rules.
If you don't understand why we have a particular rule or would like clarification about a particular rule, post your query here.

Hi,
Rule 7 is the most discussed in the channel, since it allows "911" as invite (some people think of the 11th september). Also all combinations of capital "i" and small "L" are allowed, but you don't see the a difference between those letters in the chatbox. Trolls could use that.

Hi,
there are a few problems with the rules at the moment:
Rule 15 says:"EliteSTF is for STFs only from this point on.", but the next sentence: "And if you having trouble forming a team using FleetEvent, DO NOT immediately come to EliteSTF looking for team members." sounds like an exeption.
Also Rule 16: "This Channel is for STFs and STFs only." repeats only the first quote from rule 15 and adds another exeption: "The ONLY exception to this rule is the mission Assimilated, which provides the Assimilated Console as part of the Borg Set.", in the near future even "Borg Set" will be wrong. You should replace that with "part of an STF Set" (on Tribble the assimilated Console is allready part of another STF Set).
That's not all about Rule 16: "Asking for teammates or groups for other purposes, farming missions or commodities (contraband for example) is not permitted." repeats just Rule 14 in some kind...
This way the rules are just confusing. It would be better to make one rule out of 15 and 16 like: "This Channel is for STFs and STFs only, there are the following exeptions:...[add list here]", change 14 from: "Items are not to be swapped or sold on the channel." to "If you want to trade, use the Exchange - not EliteSTF - and don't ask your teammembers to trade".
These changes would make life a little bit easier.

Hi,
rule 12 (Need/Greed-Policy) is a little outdated. I would suggest the following changes:
"12. There is not an official Need/Greed Policy. However, there is an unofficial one. It is Need - what you need for yourself, Greed - what you would like to sell/store in your fleetbank. If you're with a friendly and reasonable team, they should not mind you needing as long as you ask first (and it's an item you really need). But on the other hand, if you're excessively needing when the group has agreed on a specific rule, that we will frown upon. Also, if the Team Leader establishes the loot rules at the beginning of the match. If they have done so, it is not appropriate for you to hit Need when everyone else is hitting Greed, because you are stealing the chance of the other 4 members getting the drop. This is loot ninjaing and is interpreted as antisocial behavior, which will lead to you being kicked from the channel."
This way, the rule would allow new characters to get better gear, while "old" characters still get enough to sell.

I've made the recommended changes as best I could.
Please read it and see if it's any clearer.
And the "do not come to elitestf" part is telling them not to do it, not to come here if they're having no luck building a team over there.
Every now and then, they say the channel is dead, so they don't wish to use it. To which my response is, if you joined the channel, it wouldn't be! There are a lot of active members in EliteSTF, if you go to FleetEvent, it'll be equally as active!

Hi,
thanks for changing all those rules...
However, there is one more that needs a little work:
"9. Do not send Private PMs to join teams. There has been a recent issue where people have been filling teams via private PMs and causing confusion amongst those asking for teams in channel. Please indicate your interest by giving the LFG phrase publicly, not via PM, where it is not visible to the other channel members. If you feel the need to build a team privately, please do so BEFORE asking for members in EliteSTF. Also, it's courtesy to announce your team is full, so someone is not waiting around for an invite that isn't coming."
There are a few teams that recruit on the public-EliteSTF (or another Channel) and EliteSTF at the same time. This is just like sending PMs to join teams, somebody who is only a member of EliteSTF (and not of those various other channels) doesn't know how many people from the public channel join the match. This doesn't just confuse people on EliteSTF, it could also give banned EliteSTF-Members an opportunity to join our teams.
"9. Do not send Private PMs to join teams. There has been a recent issue where people have been filling teams via private PMs or other Chat-Channels and causing confusion amongst those asking for teams in channel. Please indicate your interest by giving the LFG phrase publicly (for EliteSTF-Members), not via PM or other Chat-Channels, where it is not visible to the other EliteSTF-Channel members. If you feel the need to build a team privately, please do so BEFORE asking for members in EliteSTF. Also, it's courtesy to announce your team is full, so someone is not waiting around for an invite that isn't coming."
This should fix most of the current recruiting-problems.
>> There are a lot of active members in EliteSTF, if you go to FleetEvent, it'll be equally as active!
Well, I've joined FleetEvent, I was just confused that it was still public at that time...

I was hoping we could specify that "HoE" is not an appropriate abbreviation of Hive Space Elite? It's annoying to see that in the channels and then have the people that do it get belligerant when you ask them to use the normal abbreviations.

Is it too complicated to suggest a change to fix that?
You dislike "HoE" (for Hive Onslaught Elite) and I would guess you would also dislike "ItHE" (for Into the Hive Elite). We've got a list of the Elite-STFs and the commonly used Symbols for them. So we just need to change rule 8:
"8. Try to make sure no more then 5 people are recruiting for the same STF at once. There is no need for 7 people to all be recruiting for CSE (for example) all looking for 4 members. To avoid confusion, use the symbols listed in the "EliteSTF 101"-Thread."
I think that should be enough.

I've made the suggested amendment to the rules thread.
The reason why we clamped down on HoE was because a complaint was received that HoE is actually a way of saying something inappropriate.

I have seen messages in the channel speaking about the usage of Repulsors in Elites. Is this for the most part a banned item or is someone spreading misinformation?
I only ask because I know how frustrating it can be for others and have seen neghvars pushed into another player causing death as well as issues with AoE.

Well, that's a grey area.
We have not officially forbidden tractor repulsors.
But it has been brought to my attention enough that we are suggesting that people learn how to use the power properly if they must use it.
The example I'm most familiar with is people using Gravity Well on targets, then pushing them out of the Gravity Well with TBR. Which defeats the purpose.
The other complaint I recieved is that pushing a target out of someone else's firing range.
And I have seen players accidentally push probes into the time vortex gate.
So, we are suggesting that players be cautious in using this power, since a lot can go wrong if you don't use it properly.

A Guide is definatly in order for this. I have someone in mind who would not mind Making one for us to put up here, but anyone is welcome If they think they have any suggestions on guidlines. I would like to also point out that if Anyone is giving orders in the channel, stating rules that dont exsist on the rule list or If you just dont think they seem right moderating PLZ bring it to my attention. We are having a problem lately with People pretending to be moderators and i'd like to Clamp down on that ASAP.

Yes, I recommend you check the list of Moderators. If they're not on that, they can't issue Moderation instructions.
However, there is no restriction on members reminding each other of the rules, so that doesn't count in this case.
Or requesting that certain behavior cease if it's going too far.
